Gaspar Tavern: An exciting new venue on the rue de la Commune

The Antonopoulos Group is pleased to announce the opening of a new restaurant in Old Montreal, the Gaspar Tavern. Adding to the Group’s many establishments in the neighborhood, the Gaspar Tavern will be influential on the rue de la Commune, near the Auberge du Vieux-Port.

At the helm, Zach Suhl, the former owner of the Brunoise Restaurant and Brewery and Chef Mario Guerrera, former Executive Chef of the W Hotel and Sous Chef of the Cube Restaurant. The Chef will offer accessible and comforting cuisine inspired by British Gastro Pubs with French and Quebecois accents. Among the house specialties, a trio of savory tarts, scallops with pork belly and butterflied Cornish hen, in addition to the “Special of the Day” offering traditional dishes. Local beers on tap will be featured, including the Gaspar house beer, a Montreal lager prepared by the brewers of MTL Premium Lager. In addition, classic and creative cocktails, a wide selection of spirits, and a carefully selected wine list, will be offered.

Led by principles of authenticity and friendliness, the design of the tavern has been entrusted to Camdi Design. Raw materials, tables and oak woodwork, brass accents, antique mirrors and fixtures all perfectly complement the stone walls and the original signature of the room, nestled in an old 19th century warehouse. The long bar made of joists and beams salvaged during the structural work is crowned by a copper counter and completed by a raw bar where one can sit and watch the scaler prepare trays of oysters and seafood. The Gaspar Experience will be complemented with an eclectic background music mix of indie, classic rock, blues and folk. The tavern’s seating capacity will be 120, and in the summer season will overflow with an additional 60 on a terrace on the rue de la Commune. It will also have a room accommodating up to 60 people, available to patrons for the organization of private events.

Corporate group travel in Old Montreal

When one thinks big-city business centre, boutique accommodations, stunning river views and chic art galleries don’t often come to mind. But more and more these days, Old Montreal’s surfacing as the premier district for corporate group stays.

Balancing business sensibilities with all the perks of a luxury getaway, Old Montreal offers today’s corporate travellers a taste of everything. Here are just a few advantages:

Locale: Renowned nightlife, unique cuisine and no shortage of friendly faces—you’re in the heart of it all. The city’s centre and business district are only steps away while meeting spaces equipped to accommodate any size function dot the area. During off time, consider a group outing. Old Montreal’s the epicentre of sporting and leisure activities, perfect for team building. If you’re travelling in the winter, dog sledding, snowshoeing and ice skating excursions are among the most popular. And come summer, the Old Port plays host to some of the world’s most renowned music and arts festivals.

Ambiance: Old Montreal maintains its ranking as a top commercial and hospitality hub by harnessing the very best in the service industry. Anything can be personalized and everything’s always at your team’s disposal. And while there’s so much to do, the area also embraces a very laid-back, relaxed climate that’s miles away from the urbane hurriedness you find in most other big city districts. The temperament’s often been referred to as “European” but more aptly, it’s a tone that’s distinctly Old Montreal. Your hard-working team will breathe easy.
