Old Montreal winter activities

Calling all foodies, fashionistas and art lovers! Old Montréal is the best area by far where you will discover the most trendy restaurants, bars, galleries and boutiques in town!

Here are some suggestions of activities and events until 31 March:

Snow Village (January 18 to March 31, 2012):

In addition to the six igloos you'll find the restaurant Pommery, the Amarula bar terrace, a chapel and a hotel, all fully built of ice. Several impressive structures and monuments of snow have also been built. Each year a different world capital is in the spotlight and for 2012, the beautiful city of Montreal has been elected!

Je t’aime en chocolat (February 11-12, 2012):

The first edition of this gourmet festival arrives just in time before Valentine's Day! Artists and master chocolatiers of Quebec meet at the Bonsecours Market, with some big names in fashion such as Dinh Bà, to present us their creations. On the program: Chocolate fashion shows!

Montréal Fashion Week (February 6-9, 2012):

Wanting to inject a touch of glamour to a February start which is a little gray? The MFW event will take you directly into an episode of Sex in the City! This year, the organizers offer the opportunity for the public to buy tickets for the fall-winter 2012 fashion shows of Tavan & Mitto, DUY, Martin Lim and ça va de soi. MFW is taking place at the Bonsecours Market, Montreal’s fashion hub. Book your tickets for the shows and experience the electrifying energy that takes place in Old Montreal’s bars and restaurants during that week.

Montréal en Lumière Festival (February 16-26, 2012):

Each year, a region from around the world is put in the spotlight in order to allow Montreal’s best chefs to meet up with their colleagues abroad. For its 2012 edition, the festival will focus on Brussels and Wallonia due their neighbourly qualities and the warmth of their hospitality, features that they share with Montreal, along with their complementary qualities when it comes to gastronomy and know-how. The duos of chefs will compose menus offering perfect wine pairings that reflect the fusion of their respective culinary cultures. Visit Expérience Vieux-Montréal to learn more about the menus of Suite 701, Verses and Aix participating at the festival. Notice to night owls: do not miss the Nuit Blanche, February 25, which offers more than 180 activities including music, exhibitions, dance and more!

Cirque du Soleil Show | Michael Jackson : The Immortal World Tour (March 20-22, 2012):

It is not necessary to be a fan of the King of Pop to be moved by this colorful musical offering an original retrospective of the career of the artist.

The Quays Skating Rink (until March 11, 2012):

This natural ice rink, located on the Clock Tour Quay next to the Jacques-Cartier Quay offers an amazing view of Montreal. Different musical themes are presented in the morning and evening and skate rental services are available on site.

Winter-proof your skin!

Winters can be harsh on our skin! The cold, wind and snow can wreak havoc on our skin bringing uncomfortable dryness and dullness.

January is the perfect month to look over your beauty routine and schedule a Dermalogica personalised facial at Rainspa. Our skin therapists will recommend the appropriate Winter-must products to protect your skin and carry you into Spring with glowy skin!

Take advantage of Rainspa’s offer on their Personalized care facial valued at $119 for only $99 valid until February 28. Dermalogica Education manager, Holly Sherrard, appeared on the Morning show on January 5 to give us a few suggestions on how to banish dry skin and give your winter skin care regimen a boost.

Here is a summary:

1 - Switch your cleanser seasonally : Opting for a soothing gel cream during Winter will aid in replenishing your skin and soothe sensitivity. (Try Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Cleanser*)

2 - Gently exfoliate : It is important to use a gentle exfoliant to sweep away flakey, dull skin cells leaving skin smooth and bright while hydrating the skin at the same time. (Try Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant* and /or the Daily resurfacer*)

3 - Layer hydrating products : Layer on hydration by changing to a heavier weight moisturizer to nourish and protect your skin, and adding a serum if and when recommended by your skin therapist.

4 - Wear minimum SPF daily : Most of us skimp on sunscreen during the winter months however, UV rays are just as harmful in the Winter as they are in the Summer. (Try the Solar Defense Booster SPF30* which blends in with your moisturizer or foundation for a convenient SPF boost)
